NVIDIA Launches Open Secure AI Alliance With Industry Partners
NVIDIA and more than 30 partners have formed the Open Secure AI Alliance to develop and share open tools for securing AI systems, agents and software.
The Open Secure AI Alliance is a new industry group launched by NVIDIA and a broad list of technology partners to develop and share open technologies for securing AI systems, agents and software. The announcement is notable less for a single product than for the range of companies committing to work under the same umbrella.
NVIDIA says the alliance will build on open-source security work, including efforts associated with the Linux Foundation’s Akrites initiative and the Open Source Security Foundation community. Its stated goal is to make defensive tools, techniques and vulnerability practices more accessible as AI becomes part of more software workflows.
Who is in the alliance
The announced founding partners span cloud infrastructure, cybersecurity, enterprise software, open-source foundations and AI research. NVIDIA’s published list includes Adobe, Cisco, Cloudflare, CrowdStrike, Dell Technologies, Hugging Face, IBM, Microsoft, Palo Alto Networks, Red Hat, SAP, ServiceNow, the Linux Foundation and others.
That breadth matters because an AI application is rarely a model in isolation. It may involve model weights, data pipelines, tool connections, agent frameworks, identity systems and the software used to deploy it. A weakness can appear at any of those layers.
What the Open Secure AI Alliance says it will do
According to NVIDIA’s announcement, the alliance will work to remediate and disclose vulnerabilities using open technologies. It is also positioning open models, tools and agent harnesses as assets defenders can inspect, adapt and deploy rather than as systems that should be treated as inherently unsafe.
That is a policy position as well as a technical one. Open systems can allow more independent scrutiny, but they can also make powerful components easier to reuse. The value of the alliance will depend on whether it produces practical security work that organizations can adopt, not simply whether its members agree on broad principles.
Why AI agents raise the stakes
AI agents are designed to take actions through connected tools. In a business environment that can mean reading a document store, calling an internal API, updating a ticket or triggering another workflow. Those capabilities make an agent useful, but they also extend the possible impact of a prompt injection, credential error or vulnerable integration.
Traditional application security is still essential in that setting. The new layer is the need to test model behavior, tool permissions and the information an agent is allowed to access. Shared evaluation methods and disclosure practices could help teams avoid relearning the same lessons independently.
What this announcement does not establish
The launch does not mean there is a common security standard for every AI system, or that participating organizations will ship identical tooling. It also does not settle the broader argument over how open and closed AI systems should be governed.
For now, the Open Secure AI Alliance is a public commitment to collaborate around a rapidly changing security problem. Its credibility will be measured by the open tools, vulnerability fixes and implementation guidance that follow.
