Xbox Console Price Increase Takes Effect Worldwide

Microsoft’s latest Xbox console price increase is now in effect worldwide. In a June 25 announcement, the company said that, from August 1, prices for 512GB Xbox models would rise by US$100 and 1TB models by US$150. It also said it would sunset its 2TB model.
The announcement does not list a single global shelf price: Xbox says the update applies worldwide, while local pricing and purchase options vary by region. Anyone weighing a new console should check the Microsoft Store or an authorised retailer in their market for the current price.
What Xbox says changed
Xbox framed the move as a components-cost problem. The company said console storage and memory prices had risen by more than 2.5 times, and said it expects another doubling by the autumn of 2027. That cost assessment and forecast are Microsoft’s own statements, rather than independently verified market projections.
Xbox also said consoles are generally sold below their manufacturing cost, unlike several other consumer devices. The company did not announce a new console generation or a hardware specification change as part of this price update.
Lower-cost routes it highlighted
Alongside the increase, Xbox pointed to several ways it says may reduce the upfront cost of eligible hardware:
- Buy Now, Pay Later: short-term, interest-free instalment options through Microsoft Stores on eligible purchases.
- 0% APR financing: financing through partners for up to 12 months on eligible hardware.
- Previously played consoles: planned retail-partner trade-in and resale programmes.
- Certified Refurbished Xbox consoles: Microsoft says these are available for up to US$100 below MSRP.
Availability, eligibility, credit terms and payment options vary by region. The price change is immediate; the alternative-purchase programmes should be treated as options to check locally, not as a universal replacement for the new prices.
Why it matters
Console prices more often fall as a generation matures, so another increase is notable for buyers deciding between an Xbox Series X|S, a refurbished console, or waiting for a promotion. Microsoft’s stated deltas are tied to storage tiers, which makes the exact model and local market especially important when comparing offers.
